Name the hair care process that keeps natural curls happy and healthy.
What is the curly girl method? That is correct!
Explained in Lorraine Massey's “Curly Girl: The Handbook,” this method retrains curly haired cuties to properly care for their curlies.
Here's a look at
how to start the curly girl method based on our experience.
Step 1:: Throw out all other preconceived ideas you have when it comes to washing, conditioning and styling your curls.
Step 2: Purge your stash of products that contain harsh sulfates, ammonium and other chemicals that strip natural hair of moisture.
Step 3: Get rid of heat styling tools, brushes, combs and products that contain alcohol, artificial fragrances or non-water soluble silicones.
Step 4: Invest in products formulated for naturally curly hair. Look for ingredients such as shea butter, wheat germ, aloe vera and glycerine.
Step 5: Learn how to properly cleanse your curls. Apply cleansing conditioner and vigorously but gently scrub the scalp with your fingertips. Rinse.
Step 6: Separate hair into sections and saturate each one individually with conditioner so that it is evenly distributed from root to tip.
Step 7: Rinse the conditioner out if you have wavy hair. Can be left in to deep condition thick coils or coarse curls crying out for moisture.
Step 8: Bend over and flip hair forward. Blot excess water by cupping curls with a towel and then let air dry or blowdry with a diffuser.
Step 9: Apply gel to hands and gently scrunch curls starting at the ends and working your way toward the scalp. Lift roots up for extra volume.
Step 10: Repeat process every few days depends on how coarse, thick or oil your natural hair is.
Now that you know how to do the curly girl method, it's time to show your curls some TLC.
All
you need is a good conditioner and a hair gel that holds curl.
